BACK to comments Tuesday, June 26, 2001 at 22:46 8 females at court today for pre-trial review (of evidence vs. defence), adjourned again until 26th July. I male at court on 2nd July for handcuffing himself to wagon to prevent entry to site. We are desperate for cash for our defence/action funds ! The excellent Video of Tow Law protestors actions/arrests/demonstrations etc. is living history of ordinary people struggling against the Government/MAFF/Army/Envir. Agency/Police. We will shut this site. To-date we have won over 1 Town Council / 2 District Councils / 1 County Council / 1 MEP. We have opened 2 case files in the EEC, 1 individual case, and a group file of several hundred residents who signed a petition, naming the individual as our representative. We ask you all to please support us, buy our Video for £6, or send a donation. Advertise our campaign/struggle on you websites. Cheques payable to 'Newlittlebighorn Defence Fund' 5 Elm Park Terrace Tow Law Co.Durham DL13 4NH The info we gather is shared with you all, today Cumbria contacted us, the Great Oughton Burial Site is in danger of leaking, DEFRA is to build a 'Coffer Dam' around the site, 8 mtrs deep x 2 mtrs wide x 2.5 klms long, concrete containing volcanic rock which is more waterproof (instead of traditional limestone) is hoped will prevent the worst leakage of fluid (leachate) into the adjoining land, the Env. Agency is hoping that it will travel downward and dilute before it becomes too obvious. We learned 5 weeks ago that this type of 'dam' was proposed for Tow Law, tenders had been sent out to Civil Engineering contractors for bids, MAFF strenuously denied it. There is no safe containment for the diseases/viruses/toxins/gasses that are produced by thousands of rotting animal carcasses. We need a loan of a Geiger counter ! The Department of Health Risk Assessment points out that sheep carcasses whether burnt or buried, may contain radiation, carried over from the Chernobyl nuclear disaster, contaminating soil and grasses then into sheep ! How much will depend on how many sheep ! The radioactive cloud was over the UK for 10 days, before the government told us to close windows and try to avoid being outdoors. |
