BACK to comments Friday, April 6, 2001 at 23:34 How dare the government and all the powers that be behave in such a cavalier fashion? It is time to call halt now. An exiled Taffy' Friday, April 6, 2001 at 23:28 The effects of this may last many years - and worse, may not show up for 3 to 5 years. And as every reputable microbiologist knows, disinfectant will not kill viruses. Friday, April 6, 2001 at 22:46 This is a sick and violent way to react to an illness that could be stopped with vaccination. New Labour disgust me and all of my friends and neighbours. Stop them from ruining any other spot of our land. I am really sorry for you all. Friday, April 6, 2001 at 22:05 Burial on this site should not go ahead unless it can be demonstrated that it will not effect the river catchment areas. I support the farmers and have a smallholding myself and I support culling. The problem is that this Govt has totally mismanaged the outbreak and caused a scandalous crisis. They did not act properly in the early days and were concentraing on spin in the run up to an election. They left infected animsl for days before slaughtering them they left carcasses around for days when they finally culled them. Then the outbreak went out of control and the knock-on effects have hit all rural businesses and caused such poor responses as this site at Epynt. Now Tony Blair has the sickening hypocrisy to prance about in the countryside talking of tourism and pretending he's sorting it out after he allowed this scandal to run out of control. Friday, April 6, 2001 at 21:32 This is bad news for local people, but surely your strength lies in pointing out that the urban population of South Wales (Swansea and its area) gets its water from the Towi DOWNSTREAM of this pollution. This could be an environmental disasater on a VAST scale. Friday, April 6, 2001 at 21:26 Why hasn't the fire that burnt most of the straw/coal & wood been mentioned on the news? Friday, April 6, 2001 at 21:21 If Powys & Carmarthenshire County Councils are behind the farmers with regard to Epynt surley Carwyn Jones and his gang should listen and stop what they are doing. Come June they will want us to vote , why should we bother, they do what they want anyway!!! Friday, April 6, 2001 at 21:16 The cull is useless anyway, and the transporting and burial of so many animals into your beautiful area is criminal. I don't live far from the Brecons, and my friend works on a voluntary scheme to keep the footpaths and walls intact...we are very very angry that this pollution and deliberate environmental destruction is being enforced on you...you are in our thoughts...If I could come and help in person I would, but I live on a farm in an infected area...Good luck. Friday, April 6, 2001 at 20:00 we are behind you 100% Friday, April 6, 2001 at 19:24 This is a nightmare. Friday, April 6, 2001 at 19:11 The whole plan to dispose of hazardous waste ie contaminated animal carcasses in a clean environment is cavilier and almost certainly unlawful. EPA90 & EA95 have been breached by the authorities and an injunction should be sought to prevent any further contamination. The closure of the A40 road by the police for political reasons is certainly unlawful unless they can substaniate it as a public safety measure. All lorry operators must have a valid licence to transport hazardous waste, action should taken to check the licences are in place. The Crown does not have immunity except for noise and smoke pollution and therefore must comply with current legislation unless a state of emergency is called. Most actions to date in regard to the Epynt site appear to be unlawful as no authority to use or operate the site exists. Friday, April 6, 2001 at 18:35: All I can say is I totally agree.Stop this insanity now before its to late Friday, April 6, 2001 at 17:48 Wn i ddim a allaf fod o gymorth, ond mae'n amlwg fod y cynlluniau hyn yn warth ac yn sarhad ar fynydd yr Epynt a brofodd eisoes gymaint o gamreolaeth gan rymoedd gor-ganolog. Pob llwyddiant yn eich ymgyrch. Friday, April 6, 2001 at 17:21 It seems inconceivable to me that any site to be used for burial/burning, etc would not be THOROUGHLY researched and found to be safe. There surely can be NO EXCUSE. Friday, April 6, 2001 at 17:06 I am in full agreement with all that is being done Powys is very slow getting action and should be pushed over the weekend to stop further deliveries Friday, April 6, 2001 at 16:04 we're all in trecastle at the mo there's been about 20 lorry's going through and everyone of them absolutely stinks, thankyou everybody for your support and still keep it up. we still need more people and more support, so if your anywhere near please beep or stop and lend a hand! thanks again Friday, April 6, 2001 at 16:11 Where as I totally sympathise with the agricultural community in the Sennybridge and adjoining areas, I feel it is important not to loose sight of the real issues behind the necessity of the sites on the Epynt. This is not a time for emotional head spinning but hard, accurate facts need to be gleened from the appropriate agencies on the reality (and I stress reality) of this situation. Whereas your site accuratly paints a beautiful picture of this area, it is this kind of sentimentality that should be avoided at times of such volatility. I understand that the location of the site is still not common knowledge and I feel the graziers of the Epynt should be very careful when dealing with the MOD. The reality is that if push came to shove, all licenses to graze could quite easily be revoked and this would prove to be a far greater econimic disaster to the local farming community than the slight possibility of contamination. Friday, April 6, 2001 at 14:58 Myddfai farmers et al have raised funds to seek legal advice on the possibility of gaining an injunction pending judicial review. Decision hoped for by Saturday Friday, April 6, 2001 at 14:57 Re one of your messages today: "it only seems to be the locals who care" My husband has been to Trecastle all day since last Saturday. We live 20 miles away. I would be there too but one of us has to stay to look after the farm. I am dividing my time between the lambing shed and lobbying anyone and everyone I can think of who might be able to help. Please keep up the good work Friday, April 6, 2001 at 14:41 please let us know what we can do Friday, April 6, 2001 at 12:55 I have e-mailed various people in connection with this disaster, including Carwyn Jones. The impression I get is that no-one but the locals care about what is going on... Friday, April 6, 2001 at 12:14 an ecological disaster which threatens us all in a huge area - both economically and, more importantly, our physical health for years to come. Why here? Friday, April 6, 2001 at 12:05 I will support you in any way I can. See you up there tomorrow. Friday, April 6, 2001 at 11:08 I live near Hay-on-Wye and am surrounded by carnage by Maff. Some farmer friends are holding out against the culling of their healthy animals, but are being browe beaten into agreeing. They are unable to get an independant vets second opinion. The only people who seem able to test are Maff. This must be a violation of their legal rights?. Has the world gone mad?!!! Friday, April 6, 2001 at 11:06 Once more the Governments blatant disregard and contempt for the feelings of those in rural areas is shown. Epynt was never the best option, it is merely the most convenient for an inept govt agency and its 'hangers-on'. Congratulations and Good Luck to you all. Friday, April 6, 2001 at 10:28 I was present at the meeting last evening when news of the "lost lorry" came in. If this lorry was leaking in an empty condition (even if it was disinfectant) how could it be sealed with a full load of carcasses?? The stench from the lorries shows how well they are sealed. Friday, April 6, 2001 at 09:59 Behind you all the way. Friday, April 6, 2001 at 09:11 Keep up the good work! Friday, April 6, 2001 at 01:31 WHY IS NO-ONE IN THE MAINSTREAM MEDIA TELLING THE TRUTH?!?!? |
